Go Red Riots!

The South Portland Ice Hockey Boosters are the parents and volunteers who help to raise funds in the continuing effort to keep our city's players on the ice.  The boosters fully-fund the middle school hockey program, and augment the high school program as needed.  Our primary fund-raising effort is through Sunday Night Bingo at the Lamson's Family Entertainment Hall on John Roberts Road in South Portland (behind the Maine Mall).  See notes below on how our Bingo program works.

The South Portland Hockey Boosters meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, normally in the SPHS Assistant Principal's Conference Room.  Any parent is welcome to attend these booster meetings.

Next meeting: Wednesday, November 12, 2008, 7pm

The South Portland Hockey Boosters Leadership are elected annually at our May Meeting.

President: Bud Ellis

Vice-President: Sharon Conley

Treasurer: Debbie Igo

How the Bingo program works:

We have four teams of bingo workers who cover each Sunday of the month on a rotation basis. Teams are responsible for 13 Sundays in a year. Workers report to the bingo hall from 4:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. at the John Roberts Road Bingo Hall in South Portland. We send 5 volunteers each week. Our teams consist of seven members so two members from each team have a rotation off each Sunday. Each volunteer receives a complimentary dinner from the concession when they work.

Benefits of the program:

a. A player with a parent actively volunteering in the Booster's Bingo program does not pay the Middle School program fee from "day one" of volunteering, which is currently $500.00 for a non-Bingo program player.

b. A player with a parent actively volunteering in the Booster's Bingo program will have their USA Hockey registration fee reimbursed, which is currently $37.00.

c. A player with a parent who has volunteered in the Booster's Bingo program for 12 months will have their private league fee, not to exceed $440.00, paid for by the South Portland Hockey Boosters. For volunteers beginning after September, the reimbursement, which would be payable for your player's league next fall, is pro-rated to the number of months volunteering. I would be able to give you an exact amount of reimbursement should you begin volunteering before next September.

d. A player with a parent who has volunteered in the Booster's Bingo program throughout the player's four high school years, will receive a $1,000.00 scholarship awarded at the Senior Honors Night.

e. There can be other incidental financial benefits that are on a case-by-case basis as determined by the board and depending on funding available.
